Background

SL Controls provides consultancy, design, simulation and commissioning services for industrial automation equipment and control systems worldwide.

The company has recently expanded and moved to a new, state-of-the-art premises.

However, the company’s website looked outdated, and did not provide much useful information.

Challenge

SL Controls decided to examine both the public website and its internal use of the internet. They asked Heraghty Internet Consultants to design and build a new public website.

They also asked us to devise bespoke online solutions for various internal functions, including timesheets and corporate CVs.

Solution

We revamped the SL Controls website, giving it a contemporary new look, while retaining the colours and motifs of its existing logo and corporate identity.

We worked closely with the client, through a series of workshops and meetings, to devise the structure and content of the website, and to choose appropriate images.

We also designed and built a corporate intranet. The intranet had five main features:

• Employee Timesheets
  This allowed employees to record their time spent on daily activities. The tool generated weekly reports. Admin users can track the timesheets of all employees.
• Corporate CVs
  Employees could also create, edit and print corporate CVs, allowing SL Controls to track the knowledge and skills of its staff. Admin users can view, edit and print any CV.
• Group Calendar
  The group calendar allows SL Controls employees to post events, or other date-specific information, to an online calendar that all other employees can view.

  For example, the calendar is used to show when an employee will be unavailable due to holidays.

• Administration
  Admin users can create users and set permissions. They can access and edit all CVs and Timesheets in the system.
• Website Editor
  Admin users can also edit the website via the intranet, using a custom-built Content Management System.

Results

SL Controls have expressed satisfaction with their new-look website and, in particular, have found it useful in attracting new employees. The website contains more accurate information about the organisation and its services.

Employees have had no difficulty in using the new intranet features, and have described them as useful and user-friendly.
